Location + History

Riverside Beauty

The Bridge Street Wedding Chapel LLC is located in what was once the First Congregational Church built in 1903 on the north shore of the Grand River in Grand Ledge, Michigan. It is the second oldest church building in town.

Located across the river and within easy walking distance from the Grand Ledge Opera House, a popular wedding reception venue, it’s easy to see why so many brides consider the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel a perfect location for their wedding. This is also one of the reasons Grand Ledge is quickly becoming a destination wedding location for those who want a small-town feel with classic elegance.

A New Era

Modern Touches

After a complete renovation in 2006, the chapel now combines the best of the original church building with the best of a new facility. The original stained glass, organ pipes, and woodwork give the chapel a warm and inviting church-like feel while the new bathrooms, bridal suite, groom’s lounge, sound system, central air and heat, and more give you the comfort of a new facility. It’s an atmosphere that simply can’t be duplicated and is guaranteed to make your wedding day everything you imagined it would be.

Equally as important though is the attention you will receive from owners Chris and Mary Holmes who also own and operate Holmes Photography Studio LLC (with a full studio on the lower level). They and their staff will make sure all your needs are met and because they have been in the wedding industry since 1980 they can easily and confidently help you plan your day at the chapel with no detail overlooked.

“Because we are owners and not just employees we are completely dedicated to you and your wedding plans”, says Chris. “When you own a facility such as this you simply want every experience to be 100% positive and that’s what we strive for.”

Chris Holmes

Chapel Owner and Lead Photographer for Holmes Photography Studio LLC

In 2005, while looking for a building to house their photography business, Chris and his family stumbled upon what is now the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel and Holmes Photography Studio, and it was love at first site. “The enormous stained glass windows and the entire atmosphere were breathtaking, and we knew then this was meant to be. We needed to restore and resurrect this historic local landmark as a cornerstone of the Grand Ledge community as it was when built-in 1903. Before this adventure, Chris began his photography career in the US Navy for nine years. He then transitioned to civilian life as staff and eventually chief photographer at the Lansing State Journal for 19 years.

Mary Holmes

Officiant, Office Manager, Hostess, and Second Shooter for Holmes Photography Studio

Mary worked for over 25 years in the Grand Ledge School District as a TA and LRE, helping countless students succeed despite various challenges. She has hosted and performed hundreds of weddings and helped photograph many weddings at the chapel and other venues. She is our rehearsal night coordinator, making sure everyone knows their role, the music is ready to go and all details are covered. Keeping elementary students focused and on task trained her well for dealing with sometimes over-exuberant wedding parties.

Ryan Holmes

Officiant, Ceremony Host, Overall Maintenance and Groundskeeper

Ryan has been an integral part of the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel since its start in 2006. He is an ordained officiant, having presided over many weddings at the chapel and elsewhere. On ceremony days, he helps with hosting duties and plays the music the couple has chosen for the ceremony.
