HOW IT CAME TO BE: Husband and wife wedding photographers Chris and Gay
Holmes created the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel in 2006 by restoring The First Congregational church which was built in 1903. It had not
served as a church since the 1960s and for those who are familiar with
what the dilapidated interior looked like before, the transformation is
nothing short of miraculous. Chris was the chief photographer for the Lansing State Journal and a staff photographer since 1988 when they decided to fulfill a lifelong dream of owning a wedding chapel to compliment their wedding photography business.
WHAT PEOPLE SAY: One of the things that couples say they like the most (other than the natural beauty of the chapel with it's original stained glass and organ pipes) is the
flexibility that the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel offers. Although the setting is a turn-of-the century church-like atmosphere, we
are not a church, so couples have very few
restrictions when planning their wedding ceremony. Your experience with us will be as stress-free as possible and we will do whatever we can to help guide you with our many years of experience in the wedding industry.
PRICING: Our pricing varies depending on the time of day, and the day of the week. We will be glad to email you complete information or discuss options over the phone. We can handle a simple justice of the peace type ceremony or a full day event and anything in between. Most weddings book for a 2 or 3 hour time-slot.
We don't host receptions (unless you have a very small ceremony and want simply a champagne and cake reception after the ceremony). We do have a list of many nearby facilities that host full receptions as well as lists of every imaginable vendor you may need for your wedding day.
PARKING: There is plenty of nearby parking -- 3 public lots, and free street
parking. There is a newly finished parking lot and park across the
street which makes a great place for photos with a deck overlooking the
Grand River and the Grand Ledge Opera House. A new 60-plus parking lot
is due to be built one block to the north and will be finished by late 2010.
Because we work most weekends our hours vary during the week so please call or email to schedule an appointment before stopping by.
Some improvements made during the renovation
- New 3-room bridal suite (with a private bathroom)
- Grooms lounge (which resembles an old time cigar lounge with leather couch and rich green walls with period artwork on the walls).
- Handicap accessibility, with 3 new handicapped accessible bathrooms.
- Central air conditioning and heating for weddings 365 days a year.
- Installation of an integrated sound system with a 4- speaker setup to play wedding music either from a laptop or an mp3 player.
- We have an organ and piano on site and seasonal decorations but you may bring in your own musicians and add to the decorations if you like.
Features Included in Rental Price at No Extra Charge
- One hour of rehearsal time earlier in the
week. (For 2-hour or more rentals)
- On-site wedding planning including vendor
recommendations, lists of officiates, receptions sites and more.
- “DJ” service for your rehearsal and
ceremony. We have a built in music
system that we will play for you.
Choose from what we offer or bring in a CD.
- Piano and organ are available if you want to hire
a musician to play live music.
- White chair covers and bows.
- Basic decorations and all candles for candelabras
and votives. You would only need to
bring in a unity candle if using one in the ceremony.
- You may bring in more decorations as
well including flowers, bows etc.
- Rehearsal night wedding coordinator. We will be available to make suggestions
and show you various options available for your wedding day.
- Set up and clean up. Just take with you what you want to keep
after the wedding and we will clean up after you. No need to leave people behind to pick
up.

HOLMES PHOTOGRAPHY is located in the lower level of the Chapel and offers discounted wedding photography packages for those who rent the chapel. We also have photography packages that include engagement sessions, coffee-table quality albums, DVD's with all your high resolution images and more.
As one of Grand Ledge's premiere facilities the Bridge Street Wedding Chapel also hosts other events including birthday and corporate parties, meetings, open houses for graduating seniors, corporate meetings, quinceanaras, classes and more.
Remember - most couples reserve their wedding location and photographer up to a year and a half in advance so it's never too early to make your plans and reserve your date.
